Important Update: Clarifying False Rumors About Cooper High School

Dear Robbinsdale Area Schools staff, families, and community members,

We are aware of widespread social media rumors claiming that ICE or federal border patrol agents were present at Cooper High School today. This is not true.

To be clear: ICE or federal agents have not been confirmed at Cooper High School today, nor have they been confirmed at any Robbinsdale Area Schools (Rdale) school. These claims mirror similar false rumors that have circulated over the past few days involving other Rdale schools.

We understand the concern and vigilance our community is showing, especially in light of ongoing fear and uncertainty affecting many families. We take that concern seriously.

This message builds on the communication we shared with families yesterday, Our Continued Commitment to Safety, Dignity, and Belonging, in which we reaffirmed our responsibility to protect students and staff and outlined the support available to families experiencing stress, fear, or uncertainty during this time. Families are also encouraged to visit our immigration resource page for specific information and resources.

Rdale remains firmly committed to the safety and security of our students and staff. Our schools are private spaces, and access is governed by state and federal law, as well as district safety policies and visitor procedures. We have established protocols in place to respond to any situation involving unauthorized visitors or outside agencies, including ICE and federal border patrol.

While we appreciate the vigilance in helping to keep students and staff safe, please understand that spreading unverified rumors is not helpful—and can be harmful. These rumors create unnecessary fear and anxiety, particularly within our immigrant and affinity group communities, and they have the potential to unnecessarily disrupt the learning and teaching environment in our buildings. We ask our community to help keep our schools safe and supportive by not sharing or amplifying unconfirmed information and rumors.

Thank you for your care, vigilance, and continued partnership as we work together to ensure our schools remain safe, welcoming places for all.
